Central Swindon North Parish Council is very pleased to formally announce that the green light has been given for the exciting Moredon Sports Hub project, with the recent confirmation of a key funding award from Sport England.
The Moredon Sports Hub will see a major redevelopment of sport and leisure facilities at Moredon Playing Fields that will be a major asset for the Parish and the town, with local and regional appeal.
The new multi-sports venue will offer enhanced facilities for football, with a new 3G pitch complementing the grass pitches. Fans of cricket will be able to enjoy two new artificial strips, and the existing croquet facility will be improved.
In addition to these sports facilities, the Moredon Sports Hub will be the location for a closed-circuit cycle track providing 1.2km of safe, traffic-free ‘road’ cycling; a first for Swindon.
To enhance the cycling offer at the venue, a new BMX pump track and a cyclo-cross route will offer opportunities to participate in a range of cycling disciplines, making the Moredon Sports Hub a first-class cycling facility for the Parish, Swindon, and the South-West.
A new pavilion will house a café, youth room, club room, and changing facilities, supporting the delivery of sport and leisure at the venue, and providing space for community groups, events, and activities, as well as a home for local football, cricket, croquet, and cycling clubs. The Parish is additionally exploring options to provide a 35-station gym and fitness studio.
Partnerships with British Cycling, The Football Foundation, Sport England, and Swindon Borough Council will see a vibrant programme of activities and events at the Hub, from grass-roots football and cycling training, pay-and-play facility hire, to competition level events, with a strong emphasis on promoting health and wellbeing through encouraging participation in sport.
The Moredon Sports Hub is an exciting development for Central Swindon North Parish that will benefit parishioners by providing much needed improvements to existing sporting facilities and introduce new, state of the art cycling facilities.
Ground clearance has already started at the site, and Parish Councillors look forward to the opening of the fantastic new sport and leisure asset in late winter, 2021.
